Ok, here goes, they said it and now somebody's gotta say it to you---
Remember that April legislation regarding lead based paint? Here's a hint: it's the legislation requiring contractors to be certified. The deadline date for certification has come and gone. The EPA has now extended that deadline to the end of the year. That is all the G O O D News.
Now for the BAD--did you know Realtors, who manage property built prior to 1978 must be certified (if construction happens)? You probably did not know this, if you did, you are better read than I! I assumed property managers would get a "certified" contractor and be done with it! "No," sayeth the man at the OHFA meeting. When specifically asked it property managers, who hired certified contractors would also need the certification, the answer was a resounding "yes.".
Oh, and one more bit of bad news, it appears the contractors' company must also go thru the paperwork mumbo, jumbo to get certified. It seems that if you or anyone in your organization does property management, you must be certified, as well as, your company. Ouch! The fees on both ends are pretty steep! Go figure.
